Maryam (Mary) — مَرْيَم

Story — English
Born to Imran and Hannah, dedicated to the temple before birth. Cared for by Zakariyya. Received provision miraculously in her chamber. Chosen by Allah above all women. The angel Jibreel appeared to her in human form — she sought refuge in Allah from him. He told her of Isa. She said ‘How can I have a child when no man has touched me?’ He said: ‘Such is Allah — He creates what He wills.’ She retreated to give birth alone. Shook a palm tree for fresh dates during labor. Held the baby who spoke in the cradle when she returned. The Quran honors her with an entire surah (Maryam) — the only woman with a surah named after her. She is described as a ‘siddiqah’ (completely truthful) in 5:75.

عمران اور حنہ کی بیٹی، پیدائش سے پہلے ہی نذر کی گئیں۔ زکریا کی نگرانی میں رہیں۔ غیبی رزق ملتا رہا۔ تمام دنیا کی عورتوں پر چن لی گئیں (3:42)۔ فرشتہ آیا، عیسیٰ کی خبر دی۔ تنہا بچہ جنا۔ لوگوں نے الزام لگایا — بچے نے گود میں بول کر سب کیا۔ قرآن کی واحد خاتون جن کے نام پر سورت ہے۔
