Reason: Left his people without permission; was swallowed by a whale; his dua in the darkness is the most powerful recorded; his people were saved — the only people who returned to faith after seeing punishment

Story — English

Sent to the people of Nineveh. Left them in frustration before receiving permission to go. Boarded a ship; a storm came; lots were cast and he was thrown overboard; swallowed by a whale. In the depths of the sea, in the darkness of the whale’s belly, he called: ‘There is no god but You, exalted are You; indeed I have been of the wrongdoers’ (21:87) — the Tasbih of Yunus. Allah responded; the whale cast him out onto the bank. He was in a state of illness. A plant grew over him. Then he was sent back to his 100,000+ people — and this time they believed. They are the only community in history to have believed after seeing the signs of punishment coming, and their faith was accepted.

کہانی — اردو

اہل نینوا کی طرف بھیجے گئے۔ اجازت کے بغیر چلے گئے۔ کشتی میں سوار ہوئے، طوفان آیا، سمندر میں پھینکے گئے، مچھلی نے نگل لیا۔ اندھیرے میں دعا: ‘لا الٰہ الا انت سبحانک انی کنت من الظالمین’ (21:87)۔ اللہ نے قبول کیا، مچھلی نے ساحل پر اگل دیا۔ دوبارہ قوم کی طرف گئے — ایک لاکھ سے زیادہ ایمان لائے۔
