Wife of Lut —
Also known as: Waligha (according to some traditions)
Path — Deviated Path |
Reason: Sided with the people of transgression; looked back in disobedience and was destroyed; cited as a warning in 66:10
Story — English
Wife of the prophet Lut who secretly sympathized with her people rather than her husband. When the family fled, she was commanded not to look back but she did — and was destroyed with the people. She is paired with the wife of Nuh in Surah At-Tahrim (66:10) as a dual warning: marriage to a prophet does not save you. She betrayed her husband by informing the people of the presence of guests.
Lessons from the Quran
- Internal loyalty is what matters — not external proximity to a prophet
- One act of disobedience (looking back) brought destruction
- Betrayal of trust within the household is a serious sin
