Reason: The only person condemned by name in the Quran (111:1-5); active enemy of the Prophet ﷺ despite being his uncle
Story — English
Uncle of the Prophet ﷺ (son of Abd al-Muttalib, making him a blood relative). Yet he was the most virulent enemy of the Prophet in Makkah. When the Prophet ﷺ called his clan to Islam, Abu Lahab responded: ‘May you perish! Is this why you called us?’ An entire surah (Al-Masad) is revealed condemning him and his wife by name — the only such specific condemnation in the Quran. He would follow the Prophet in the markets undoing his message. He and his wife are condemned to the Fire. His wife Umm Jamil would carry thorny branches to scatter in the Prophet’s path.
