Story — English
One of the chieftains of Quraysh and the most vicious persecutor of the Prophet ﷺ and early Muslims. His real name was Amr ibn Hisham; Muslims called him Abu Jahl (Father of Ignorance). Surah Al-Alaq (96:9-18) was revealed about him specifically — describing ‘the one who forbids a servant from praying,’ threatening to grab him by the forelock if he saw the Prophet praying. He persecuted, tortured, killed early Muslims (including Sumayyah — the first martyr). He died at the Battle of Badr — young companions recognized and killed him. His treatment was exactly as the Quran had warned: dragged by the forelock.
